Captain Beany successfully completed the 2026 London Marathon last month as Captain Comrel, taking on the full 26.2 miles in a full space suit to raise money for Comic Relief.
It was an incredible challenge, and thanks to the amazing support received, he raised £3,676.25 for a fantastic cause. Every donation helped support the life-changing work Comic Relief does for people who need it most.
Such a memorable fundraising mission.
Captain Beany took on an incredible endurance challenge by travelling from John O’Groats to Land’s End, covering 937 miles over 44 days. The journey was undertaken to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of his brother, Peter Kirk. Through determination, resilience and the support of the community following his progress, Captain Beany successfully raised £5,000 for the charity.
The challenge was not only a physical test but also a heartfelt tribute, helping to raise awareness of heart disease while honouring Peter’s memory. His journey demonstrated how personal loss can inspire meaningful action that benefits others.
To celebrate his 70th birthday in a truly unforgettable way, Captain Beany took on a 15,000-foot skydive in support of the charity Together for Short Lives. Determined to mark the milestone with something meaningful, he used the challenge to raise awareness and funds for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
With the support of friends, supporters and the wider community, Captain Beany successfully raised £500 for the charity. The daring skydive perfectly reflected his adventurous spirit and ongoing commitment to fundraising, proving that age is no barrier when it comes to supporting good causes and making a difference.
Captain Beany brought energy, humour and a touch of Formula 1 flair to the Bideford Soapbox Derby 2024 as part of the F1-themed team entry. Known for his passion for community fundraising and entertaining the crowd, Captain Beany fully embraced the spirit of the event, combining creativity, fun and charitable purpose.
The team’s Formula 1 inspired soapbox design and racing outfits added to the spectacle on the day, drawing cheers and smiles from spectators lining the course. Beyond the entertainment, Captain Beany’s involvement helped raise vital funds for charity, showing once again how community events like the Bideford Soapbox Derby can bring people together while supporting great causes.
On Saturday 23rd March 2024 the captain entered Pound the Pound in Devon. I was part of the winning team, called “Captain and the Beans”. There was 12 people in the 3 bean teams, the other 2 was “Runner Beans” and “The Baked Beans”. Together we raised £2772.17 for ChemoHero and Calvert Trust.
Finally, one of the highlights of 2022, was participating in the 40th Anniversary of the Richard Burton 10K in November 2022!
With sponsorship from Cwmavon Car Sales, we raised a massive £1,500 on behalf of Margam YC Stags Inclusion Football, Port Talbot.
